Movement Completed
Moderator, my name is Sam Harvey, my centre number is 16829 and my candidate number is 8216. My media coursework and magazine is now complete, I hope you enjoy marking my coursework.
Double Page Spread
This is my completed double page spread. I kept up the use of my housestyle and tried keeping the double page quite simple because looking at other rock magazines this is what they tend to do. I made the image sepia because it helps the text to stabd out better.
Before and after, the process of making my cover
Thus is the original image and this is what it looked like I after I was done. It took me a while to decide on the font for the title of my magazine, and I didn't like any of the ones on photoshop because they didn't look like they belonged on a rock magazine. Eventually I went on http://www.picnik.com/ (which has now closed) which is an image editing website, and chose a font from there. I typed in MOVEMENT and saved it as an image then put it on my magazine cover. I used the stroke affect to get the dark outline around the text. Jake's arm overlaps the Movement text but the rest of his body is behind the other text. To do this I had to use the Magnetic Lassoo tool and cut Jake's arm to make it a seperate layer. I then moved this layer higher than the MOVEMENT layer.
The rest of the font I used was mostly Impact, which I think is quite affective as it stands out well. I used the same colour as I used for the MOVEMENT font to create a house style, but to stop my magazine from being boring I used a gradient affect on it. I made the Currawongs logo by cropping out a Currawong and using a stroke from the inside of it to make it all black. I cut the eye out seperately and put it over the top of the bird. The font I used for THE CURRAWONGS is also from http://www.picnik.com/ and I pasted it over a blue rectangle.

Pictures I used.
I chose Jake Millie and Robert to be the band in my magazine. I chose them because I thought they looked as though they would appeal to my target audience due to their hairstyles and clothing. I took a lot of photos but I only used two of them. This was one of the ones I chose because it contrasts with the other one which is less serious. I used this image for my double page spread and basically added text around the image.

prezi evaluation
http://prezi.com/ojyeqajq5kan/magazine-evaluation/ this is my evaluation of Movement.
Contents for school magazine
This is my contents page I found recently for my school magazine that I made back in February. As you can tell I wasn't at all good at photoshop and tried to keep things basic.

Front cover
This is my completed front cover. I went back and changed the house style and made it more simple because it didn't look right before, I had too many colours and different fonts. Original colours that I had on the front were: Red, yellow, black, and white. It was recommended that we only used two or three, so I went back and changed that. With the exception of the band's logo, I only used red and black.
This new house style of the red on black began when I was making my contents page. I started to use that as my house style, and when I went back and looked at my front cover, I realised they didn't look like the same magazine, so I changed the house style of the front cover. The reason I used red on black is because I think it stands out, and it also lets the read know that the magazine is a rock magazine. The font I used is called Impact, and I used this font for most of the text. I think Impact stands out really well and looks good on a magazine.
I only used one image on the front of my cover because I noticed when looking at "Kerrang!" magazine that they tended to use one main big image (occassionally with a small one at the side) and then just had lots of text around it. I chose the image I used because my target audience is quite young, and I think it would appeal to a lot of young teens to have a fun and outgoing looking band on the front of their magazine.

St Marks Cover
This is the cover to the St Marks magazine that I made in class. I wasn't in Friday so I will have to catch up and finish the contents page in my free time. I will also upload all of the photos we took and used.

Nature magazine
This is my nature magazine cover, it wouldn't let me upload it in school so I had to use a phone to upload it, hence the not so brilliant quality.

Last lesson
Last lesson we learnt how a magazine front cover is laid out and why it is laid out the way it is. Looking through magazines gives me an idea of the kind of things I need to include on my front cover, how the font is relevant to the contents of the magazine and the language is also relevant to this and the readers.
Magazines tend to use big, striking font and massive images that are relevant to the contents to attract the reader. By just looking at the font and pictures of the magazines it is easy to understand what type of music the magazine is about.
